Yes, this is more jazz, but I always say if you don't like jazz, then you don't like American music, because that's what it comes from. Even country swings. Ok, I'll come down from my soap box and tell you what makes this such a special show. Ephraim Owens is a world class trumpeter who, when he's not on the road with the likes of Mumford and Sons, gets his kicks playing for mere tips at the Continental Gallery on Tuesday evenings. Alongside him are, usually, Red Young, Hammond B3 player who has backed up everyone from Dolly Parton to George Clinton, and drummer Brannen Temple, who has kept time for Janet Jackson among others. With that sort of pedigree, It boggles my mind that this is always a free show, and there's always room in the club. The trio covers your standards, more contemporary tunes, and Ephraim's own soul-moving pieces. These guys are a big chunk of what makes Austin the live music capital of the world.
